Ultimate Apple Pie

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

There is nothing better than a classic apple pie. Especially now that fall has officially arrived! I love how apple pie makes the entire house smell like the season. It seems like I have been doing nothing but baking the last few days, and I think I have finally perfected my apple pie recipe just in time for the holidays! You can not go wrong by bringing this family favorite to any holiday or fall party. Plus if you have any filling leftover, you can make it into applesauce!

Ingredients

8 organic Granny Smith apples peeled and thinly sliced or cubed

1 cup confection or powdered sugar

2 tablespoons unbleached organic all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Apple pie just before baking

Directions

  1. Make the pie crust. You can follow this link for my easy buttery flakey pie crust recipe that workes perfectly for this pie! Or use 1 box pre-made pie crust. If you made your own crust, form one dough slab into the bottom of the pie dish ( I used these pyrex pie dishes), and slice the other slab into 8-10 one inch strips. The set strips the side. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  2. In a large bowl mix sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  3. Carefully spoon apple mixture into the pie dish/ bottom crust. Weave the remaining crust strips over the top, pressing the edges into the bottom part of the crust.

  4. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 20-25 minutes. Remove pie and cover with foil (to prevent burning) and bake for another 20-25 minutes.

  5. Remove pie from the oven and let it sit for at least 15 minutes before serving.

  6. Enjoy!
