Fall 2024 Fashion Trends Predictions | What’s Your Autumn Fashion Aesthetic?

While I absolutely love everything that has to do with summer and the beach - at my core and in the deepest parts of my heart, I am just a basic fall girly.

Watch the video version of this post here: https://youtu.be/KN-qDSCq2Io

I am so excited that fall fashion is right around the corner! As a former personal stylist who has worked closely with designers, and luxury brands, with an expertise in couture, and randomly some degrees in psychology, I have a pretty good ability to predict fashion trends. I’ve been doing so much research about what I want my wardrobe to look like this fall and I cannot wait to share with you all of my findings!

First I am going to start with a more broader kind of over arching of ideas, themes, and aesthetics that we are going to be seeing this fall, as well as then going back and breaking it down piece by piece. We are going to figure out what to buy, and hopefully we can also discover that a lot of pieces are ones we already own from previous seasons, trends, and styles. So they can easily be reincorporated into our fall 2024 wardrobe.

The three big fall 2024 style aesthetics are going to be: English prep, dark romance, and mob wives. This is also the order that we are going to see them emerging, beginning with English preppy aesthetic early this fall, then a transition into the dark romance aesthetic closer and towards Halloween. Then right before the holiday season when the weather is going to be a little bit colder, we will see a transition into the mob wife’s aesthetic, with a lot of coats and layered pieces.

A big color trend that you are going to see is pop of red. We saw it a little bit in winter of 2023/24, but this red is a little bit different than the bright cherry red, think more of a very berry tone red. This color will translate nicely through each of the aesthetics that I just mentioned.

For accessories and shoe wear we are going to see a return to very elegant ladylike shoes, almost like librarian chic. I think this shift is partly because another big trend that we are going to be seeing this fall is vintage clothing. Specifically, vintage meaning 1940s era influence.

Another big fashion accessory trend this fall is going to be the resurgence of bag charms and just having a lot of things attached to your bag. It’s giving early 2000s but in a more purposeful and cohesive way.

With shoes we will also be seeing more dark brown and chocolate colored footwear and accessories. Everything from boots to bags, will have a huge shift away from light neutrals.

OK now let’s get back in to the fashion aesthetics before we break down individually piece by piece what you should and should not be wearing this fall.

English Prep

This trend is giving classic British sophistication a modern twist, and I’m here to break it down for you, from what it’s all about to how you can incorporate it into your wardrobe. So, if you’re ready to add a bit of timeless elegance to your fall looks, keep reading!

What exactly is English Prep?

Picture this: the classic styles of British academia, think Oxford universities, tweed blazers, tailored trousers, and pleated skirts, all reimagined with a contemporary twist. It's a blend of traditional English fashion staples with a touch of modern flair, making it both sophisticated and fresh. This aesthetic is all about clean lines, rich fabrics, and a nod to heritage, but with a relaxed, contemporary vibe that makes it perfect for everyday wear.

Let’s break down the key elements of the English Prep trend:

1. Tailoring: At the heart of English Prep is expert tailoring. Think perfectly fitted blazers, structured coats, and crisp button-up shirts. The fit is everything here—whether you’re going for a classic or oversized look, it should feel intentional and polished.

2. Heritage Fabrics: Tweed, houndstooth, and wool are your go-tos. These fabrics not only bring that British heritage feel but also add texture and depth to your outfits. A tweed blazer or a houndstooth skirt instantly elevates your look.

3. Muted Color Palette: English Prep favors a classic color palette—navy, forest green, burgundy, camel, and, of course, the classic black and white. These colors are timeless and versatile, making them easy to mix and match.

4. Layering: This trend is all about the layers! Think vests over shirts, blazers over knits, and scarves to top it all off. Layering adds dimension and interest to your outfits, plus it’s perfect for the unpredictable fall weather.

5. Preppy Details: Argyle sweaters, plaid scarves, knee-high socks, and loafers are the small but impactful details that pull the English Prep look together. These pieces give a nod to classic school uniforms but with a chic, modern edge."

Now, let’s talk outfit ideas! Here are a few looks that will have you mastering the English Prep trend this fall:

1. The Classic Academic: Start with a crisp white button-up shirt, add a plaid tie, and layer on a navy blazer with gold buttons. Pair it with tailored trousers or a pleated skirt, and finish the look with loafers and knee-high socks. This is the quintessential English Prep look—polished, preppy, and oh-so-chic.

2. Casual Prep: For a more laid-back vibe, pair a chunky knit sweater (think argyle or cable-knit) with high-waisted jeans or corduroy trousers. Throw on a wool coat or a tweed blazer for warmth, and finish with ankle boots. This look is perfect for a casual day out while still keeping that sophisticated edge.

3. Modern Scholar: Try layering a sleeveless sweater vest over a long-sleeve shirt, and pair it with a midi skirt in a houndstooth or plaid pattern. Add knee-high boots and a structured bag for a look that’s both contemporary and classic.

4. Evening Elegance: For a night out, opt for a tailored blazer dress in a rich, dark color like burgundy or forest green. Add statement jewelry, like a pearl necklace or gold earrings, and finish with sleek pumps. This look is sophisticated with just the right amount of edge."

English Prep, the trend that’s redefining fall fashion in 2024. It’s all about merging classic British style with modern elements to create looks that are timeless yet fresh. Whether you’re heading to the office, a casual brunch, or a night out, this trend has something for everyone.

Dark Romance

For something a little mysterious, a little edgy, and a whole lot romantic this fall, —Dark Romance. This trend is all about blending the drama of gothic aesthetics with a touch of elegance and sensuality, creating looks that are both captivating and enchanting. If you're into rich fabrics, deep hues, and a bit of moody allure, then this is your fall 2024 aesthetic.

So, what exactly is Dark Romance? Imagine stepping into a world where Gothic influences meet high fashion. This trend draws on the dark, brooding atmosphere of classic Gothic literature—think Edgar Allan Poe or Mary Shelley—but infuses it with an element of romance, making it soft, feminine, yet undeniably powerful. It’s a mix of rich velvets, lace, and dramatic silhouettes, all wrapped up in a color palette dominated by blacks, deep reds, purples, and dark florals. Dark Romance is the perfect way to embrace your inner femme fatale while staying chic and elegant.

Let’s break down the key elements of the Dark Romance trend:

1. Luxurious Fabrics: Velvet, satin, lace, and chiffon are the fabrics of choice. These materials not only look luxurious but also add a tactile element to your outfits. Velvet dresses, satin blouses, and lace details bring that touch of opulence that defines Dark Romance.

2. Moody Color Palette: Black is, of course, the foundation, but it’s complemented by deep jewel tones like burgundy, emerald green, midnight blue, and rich purples. Dark florals and intricate patterns add depth and intrigue to the look.

3. Romantic Silhouettes: Think flowing dresses, dramatic sleeves, and corset-inspired tops. The silhouettes are feminine but with an edge—cinched waists, high necklines, and long, sweeping skirts create a striking, ethereal vibe.

4. Gothic Details: Intricate lace, high collars, ruffled cuffs, and even Victorian-inspired chokers are all part of the Dark Romance aesthetic. These details add that gothic touch that makes this trend stand out.

5. Statement Accessories: No Dark Romance look is complete without the right accessories. Think lace gloves, statement jewelry like cross pendants or ornate rings, and don’t forget a dramatic, bold lip color to tie it all together.

Now that we’ve covered what Dark Romance is, let’s get into some outfit ideas to help you bring this trend to life:

1. The Gothic Princess: Start with a long, flowing velvet dress in a deep burgundy or black. Look for one with puffed sleeves or lace details for added drama. Pair it with lace-up boots and finish the look with a Victorian-inspired choker and bold, dark lipstick. This look is perfect for an evening event or a romantic night out.

2. Edgy Elegance: For a more casual take, try pairing a satin blouse with a high-neck collar and lace detailing with a leather skirt. Add some fishnet tights and ankle boots to give it that edgy vibe. Top it off with a dark floral headband and some layered necklaces for a touch of romance.

3. Mysterious Maiden: Go for a high-neck, long-sleeve lace dress, preferably in black or dark green. Pair it with knee-high boots and a structured blazer for a look that’s both mysterious and polished. Add a wide-brimmed hat and a dark lip to complete the ensemble.

4. Modern Victorian: Mix the old with the new by pairing a corset top with high-waisted wide-leg pants. Throw on a velvet or brocade jacket over the top and add some lace gloves for that Victorian touch. Finish with chunky boots and bold earrings for a look that’s equal parts vintage and modern.

Dark Romance is all about channeling that inner mystery and allure, with outfits that feel powerful, seductive, and timeless. Whether you’re looking to make a bold statement or add a bit of gothic elegance to your everyday style, this trend has something for everyone.

Mob Wives

Take a walk on the wild side with one of Fall 2024’s most intriguing and powerful trends—the 'Mob Wives' aesthetic. This trend is all about channeling bold, unapologetic confidence, and blending luxury with a hint of danger. If you're ready to bring out your inner boss with a look that's as fierce as it is fashionable, then this is your fall 24 aesthetic.

So, what exactly is the 'Mob Wives' aesthetic? Picture the glamour and power of 1980s and 1990s mafia-inspired fashion—think sharp tailoring, luxe fabrics, and bold, statement pieces that scream confidence. This trend takes cues from the iconic styles of mob movies and TV shows, but with a modern twist that’s all about embracing your inner powerhouse. It’s a mix of opulent materials, like fur and leather, with high-impact accessories and a color palette dominated by blacks, reds, and golds. The Mob Wives aesthetic is perfect for those who want to make a statement and command attention wherever they go.

Let’s break down the key elements of this trend:

1. Powerful Silhouettes: The foundation of the Mob Wives aesthetic is the strong, structured silhouette. Think tailored blazers with padded shoulders, pencil skirts, and wide-leg trousers. The fit is impeccable, emphasizing the body’s natural curves while exuding authority.

2. Luxe Fabrics: Fur, leather, silk, and velvet are your go-tos. These fabrics not only add a sense of luxury but also bring a touch of drama and opulence to your outfit. A fur stole or a leather trench coat instantly elevates your look to Mob Wives status.

3. Bold Colors and Prints: The color palette is intense—deep blacks, rich reds, metallic golds, and animal prints are key. Leopard and snakeskin add that fierce, untamed edge, while gold accents bring in the luxury.

4. Statement Accessories: Think oversized sunglasses, chunky gold jewelry, and sleek, structured handbags. Accessories in this trend are not just an afterthought—they’re essential to completing the look. A pair of bold, red heels or a wide-brimmed hat can take your outfit to the next level.

5. Glamorous Makeup: The makeup is just as bold as the fashion. A red lip, smoky eyes, and perfectly contoured cheeks create a look that’s both glamorous and intimidating. The goal is to look like you’re ready to take charge—because you are!"

Outfit Ideas:

1. The Boss Lady: Start with a fitted black blazer with sharp shoulders and pair it with a pencil skirt or high-waisted wide-leg trousers. Add a silk blouse in a bold color, like red or leopard print, underneath. Finish with stiletto heels, oversized sunglasses, and a structured handbag. This look is all about exuding power and confidence, perfect for a day at the office or a high-stakes meeting.

2. The Glamorous Mob Wife: Opt for a body-hugging midi dress in a luxurious fabric like velvet or satin. Layer on a fur stole or a leather trench coat for that extra touch of glamour. Accessorize with gold hoop earrings, a statement necklace, and a pair of killer heels. Don’t forget the red lip! This outfit is ideal for a night out when you want all eyes on you.

3. Casual But Fierce: Even when dressing down, the Mob Wives aesthetic stays bold. Try a fitted turtleneck with leather leggings or a pencil skirt. Add an oversized blazer and finish with ankle boots and a chunky gold chain necklace. This look is perfect for running errands or grabbing coffee, but still ensures you look fierce and put together.

4. Power Play: For a statement-making outfit, go for a tailored pantsuit in a bold color, like red or gold. Pair it with a silk camisole and finish with sleek, pointed-toe pumps. Add a snakeskin clutch and oversized gold earrings to complete the look. This is the ultimate power outfit, perfect for when you want to make a strong impression."

The Mob Wives aesthetic is all about embracing your inner strength and letting it shine through your style. It’s bold, it’s glamorous, and it’s undeniably powerful. Whether you’re stepping into a boardroom or heading out for a night on the town, this trend ensures you do it with confidence and flair.

In for Fall 2024

Let’s get into some of the individual pieces that you’re going to see really pop off this fall and these are our pieces that are not only going to be become wardrobe staples for future trends, but also will work simultaneously throughout all of these aesthetic, depending on the color or style that you buy the peace in.

This fall, be sure to have these items in your rotation: cropped jackets, wide leg jeans, skirts (midi-maxi) skirts are actually going to be much more popular than jeans this fall so if you are deciding between a nice mini skirt and a pair of wide leg jeans, actually go for the skirt this year. I know skirts have been more on the back burner and not quite as popular in the last couple years, but that is all changing this season. And honestly, I’ve already started to see this a lot more.

Vests are still going to be really popular as well as Brighton stripes. I know we talked about it a little bit when we were discussing the mob wives aesthetic, but tasteful leopard print is actually going to be everywhere this season even if you’re not trying to follow that particular aesthetic. The leopard print is also going to tie back into when I was mentioning that the vintage 1940s era look was going to resurface a lot this fall. That’s because we are going to be seeing leopard print coats styled in the look of that era, which I actually love and think that it looks super classy and super tasteful if you style it right.

Circling back into the dark romance aesthetic that we will be seeing emerging midfall with the dark florals, light cooler tone florals are a great option if you aren’t ready to commit to the dark goth, wardrobe palette.

Out for Fall 24

Now it is time to talk about all of the pieces that are going to be out this fall. I say this with a grain of salt because if you really like something then of course you should just wear it. Who am I to tell you what to wear? There are a couple of items on this list that I might not be wearing this fall, but I really do like them so I’m not going to get rid of them, I’ll just save them because probably by fall of 2026, they are going to be back in style anyways.

These are the pieces that are outdated as of fall 2024:

Starting with light colored boots, especially low shaft ankle booties. I will still do an ankle booty, but it will definitely come up over the ankle and closer to halfway to the knee.

No surprise I think that we all collectively understood this, but I still see people wearing them from time to time, jeggings and leggings as pants. Unless you’re going to the gym or working out.

Also out: long cardigans, Moto jackets, bomber jackets. With the mob wives aesthetic trend we may see some well tailored, leather, trenchcoats, in neutral and burgundy colors, but as for the bomber and Moto jackets that were popular last fall, are out.

Finally Shacketts are out! Can we please stop with these forever? I don’t even understand what they are. I’m still fine with wearing an oversized button up, boyfriend button up, over a tank top or something, but I am glad that the Shacket trend has passed, and unfortunately, along with that is going to be the flannel, but I feel like we’ve evolved past flannels and we’re doing more of that English prep aesthetic with the tweeds and the Burberry plaid so that’s all right. We’ve just evolved.

Well, my lovelies I think that that is my fall 2024 fashion, predictions, recap as of now I am sure that I will be adding to it. It will be evolving. So be sure to check back soon and follow me on Instagram to stay up to date on current fashion trends.
