Trying to beat my induction date with homemade labor prep iced tea
I started adding this in around 35 weeks into my high risk pregnancy & wanted to share what’s actually in it and why.
Red raspberry leaf tea is often used as a uterine tonic, meaning it may help support uterine tone so contractions can be more efficient once labor begins. some small studies suggest it could slightly shorten the pushing stage and reduce the need for certain interventions. it’s also rich in magnesium, iron, calcium, and vitamins a, c, and e.
Pineapple juice gets talked about for its bromelain enzyme, which some believe can help ripen the cervix. it’s a great source of vitamin c and folate, so I add it for the added nutritional support + taste.
Also, dates on the side. This is the one with the most consistent research. Eating around 6–7 a day starting at 37 weeks has been linked to higher chances of spontaneous labor, better dilation on arrival, & a shorter early labor phase. they’re thought to support prostaglandin production and mimic oxytocin, helping the cervix soften and prepare for labor.
If you’re adding frozen raspberries, just make sure they’ve been fully inspected for insects, grown in a controlled environment, or are kosher. they’re known for harboring insects, so it’s something to be mindful of.
